A bride’s bridal shower is the first of many celebrations in a couples’ wedding. Usually held several weeks prior to the big event, the bridal shower is a chance for the women in the bride’s life to get together to show support for the bride-to-be. It is also the time for friends and family to shower the couple with gifts to help with their new life together.
Traditionally, a couple’s wedding date marked the beginning of life together. Until a young girl married, she did not have a home of her own or the essentials to run the home. A bridal shower and the gifts offered were to help the couple build their home together.
In today’s society, many couples live together long before getting married or are well established in homes of their own before walking down the aisle. No longer are the essentials of the home necessary when considering a bridal shower gift. This allows for some more flexibility and creativity when choosing a bridal shower gift.
Honeymoon Help: In the midst of paying for the wedding and possibly the new home, the bride and groom hope to celebrate with another tradition – the honeymoon. Honeymoons, however, can be extremely expensive. A great idea for a bridal shower gift would be to contribute monetarily to the couple’s honeymoon fund. Many couples set up a registry for this type of gift. If one does not exist, it may be a good idea to pool a group of family or friends together and offer the gift in the form of a bank cash card or travelers checks.
Married Favorite: Most likely, many guests at a bridal shower are already married. If so, part of the shower will include former brides reminiscing about favorite shower gifts. Instead of reminiscing, try throwing a theme shower that includes must-have gifts for the bride. Each former bride can give a bridal shower gift that they could not live without. The bride-to-be will be thankful for the help and advice from friends and family.
Services: Most bridal shower gifts are tangible – china, flatware, money. To surprise the bride-to-be with gifts she’d never buy herself, consider paying for certain services for her. An out of town bride may appreciate a main service for a day when she returns from her honeymoon. Good friends or family could also drop off the couple’s cars to be detailed while they are away. New homeowners may appreciate having a painter for a day, or the services of a decorator for one special room in the home.
Registry: Many couples design wedding registries for the bridal shower gifts. Wedding registries are great for couples just starting out. A couple lets their guests know exactly what is needed and where to purchase the items.
When thinking of bridal shower gift ideas, getting creative is a sure fire way to help make a memorable bridal shower for the bride-to-be. The couple will always appreciate the help of friends and family as they start their own journey and may be inspired to share their favorite gift with the next lucky couple!
