Many young girls spend a lot of afternoons and evenings lost in thought, dreaming about their future weddings. While the groom, and the flowers, and the wedding site all figure prominently in these daydreams, another primary feature is finding an discount wedding gown they will wear that day. When the time for that wedding finally arrives, many women think they need to spend thousands of dollars to get just the right gown, but that just is not true. All it takes is some creative touches, some well-placed alterations, and some good comparison shopping, and your discount wedding gowns can look just as amazing to your guests (and to your groom!) as dresses you would find on Rodeo Drive. Before you go shopping, though, here is some advice to consider.
Just about every store that carries wedding apparel has a section with discount wedding gowns and dresses / clothing marked down to discount prices. If you do not feel like asking your sales associate where they are, they are usually hidden in the back racks of the store. Some specialty shops for brides carry dresses at a discount that were in fashion in past seasons. With just a little savvy, you can walk away with a gorgeous, prime label discount wedding gown or dress for as little as $300, if you are not very selective as to style and material.
Where did your married friends buy their bridal gowns? They may be able to point you in the direction of a wonderful boutique that has operated under the popular radar screen so far. If all of your friends are still single, you can still use the World Wide Web, or even the telephone book.
Depending on your tastes, the timing will be crucial. There are usually two reasons why a discount wedding gown is available for such a price: the style has been discontinued by the manufacturer, or the manufacturer has rolled out a new collection of gowns. The usual time of transition is late in the summer, and in the early winter, and so it can be relatively simple to find a discounted gown that is simply the victim of a transitioning manufacturer. If you have six months or more to plan ahead for your wedding, there is no reason why you should pay full price for a wedding dress. If your future mother-in-law is somewhat skeptical about your shopping for a discount wedding gown, remind her that she is always welcome to contribute to the cost of one of the high-end gowns!
If you are worried that your gown will be spotted as a fashion relic, just add some touches to it, to make it your own gown. All it will take is some subtle detailing, using lace, sequins, or other materials (you can even do this yourself, if you do not want to pay a professional). When you walk down the aisle, your guests will not be thinking they saw that dress last year at another wedding and wondering if it’s a hand-me-down: they will be wondering who put that gorgeous gown together.
Don’t forget: some dresses are on the discount rack because they are irregular, or they have some odd sizing that has made them impossible to sell, or they have cantankerous fasteners that just refuse to work. If you know a seamstress or tailor that you trust, however, these issues do not have to concern you. Save money by finding a discount wedding gown so you can spend it on your honeymoon!
