When a diamond has been cut so as to be a very thin gemstone, it is called a baguette diamond. A skilled jeweler can line up such diamonds on or in a ring and create horizontal set baguette wedding bands. Over time, jewelers have produced wonderful variations of the original, horizontal set baguette wedding bands.
Some jewelers set the baguette diamonds lying across the width of a wide band. Other jewelers set the diamonds end to end on a thin wedding band. Both creations can be categorized as horizontal set baguette diamond wedding band.
Baguette diamonds add elegance to any metal ring. Jewelers have placed lines of baguette diamonds on silver rings, gold rings, platinum engagement rings, titanium rings, palladium rings and tungsten rings. In some cases, the jewelers laid the diamonds in a section of the ring. In other cases, they fastened the line of gems onto the top of the ring.
A horizontal set baguette wedding band can have a short or long line of diamonds. No rule dictates the length of baguette diamonds that must appear in line on any one wedding band. At least, today there is not rule. In Roman times those of status apparently wanted rings that had diamonds going all the way around the ring band.
While searching for horizontal set baguette wedding bands, a couple may well discover a website with Roman bands. These are bands in which light comes off of diamonds at every point on the band. The jeweler has set a line of diamonds all the way around each of the Roman bands.
On horizontal set baguette wedding bands, a line of diamonds can be interrupted by a different gemstone. The thin diamonds might, for example, have sapphires next to them at points on the ring. In that way, a couple can have a wedding band that contains both diamonds and the birthstone of the band wearer.
The line of diamonds on a wedding band can rest on solid metal or filigreed metal. That line can be set on a wide band or a thin band. The nature of the band does often dictate the alignment of the diamonds. On a thin band, a line of diamonds looks most attractive if the gems are set end to end and inlaid by the jeweler into a crevice on the band.
Still, a skilled jeweler can set baguette diamonds side to side on a thin wedding band. This is usually done by having the diamonds form a series of “steps.” What do wedding jewelry stores then place at the top of the “steps”?
The step of baguette diamonds helps to catch the eye. It brings greater attention to the solitaire stone at the top of the ring.
