Wedding showers are a celebration of the bride and groom’s new life together, but that doesn’t mean the event should only be fun for the two of them! Wedding shower games are a sure fire way to ensure all guests will enjoy the day as much as the bride to be.
Bingo is a classic game and a classic wedding game. Using items from the couple’s registry, create a bingo card for each guest at the shower. (Using heavy cardstock will make play easier for the guests.) Before the bride begins to open presents, pass out the bingo sheets and make sure each guest has a pen. As the bride opens her gifts, guests mark off the gift as it appears on the game card. The first guest who marks a complete horizontal, vertical or diagonal line wins! Be sure to have a prize for the winner. Sure, it’s only a game, but prizes make it so much more fun! Simple gifts, such as stationary or fragrant soaps make great prize gifts.
What’s in Your Purse? is another wedding shower game. When the bride is in need of a restroom or champagne break, pass out papers that list 50 items that may or may not be found in a woman’s purse. Items can include lipstick, nail polish, quarters, a button, tissues, paperclip and so many more. Have each guest check her purse for the listed items. Again, be sure each guest has a pen. After several minutes, ask the guests to tally their items. The guest with the most items in her purse wins a prize! And no, it does not count if the items are in the “other” purse. (Often ladies carry a special purse for special occasions, and the special purse is more often cleaner than the other!)
What is She Wearing? is a wedding shower game that can be played only when the guest of honor has left the room. When the bride leaves for one of her breaks, meet her in the other room and ask her to remain hidden for at least five minutes. Return to the guests and supply them with scrap paper and a pen. Ask them what the bride is wearing today. Guests must jot down any clothing, jewelry, shoes, etc. they remember the bride wearing. When the bride returns, guests can swap papers and score a friend’s page. Whoever has the most correct items on the page wins a prize!
Drawing the Groom is a wedding shower game that is sure to get a laugh out of the bride and requires no artistic abilities from the guests. In fact, the less ability, the better the laugh! Pass out paper plates to the guests and be sure they all have pens or pencils. Let the guests know they will be drawing a picture of the groom and that the best picture will win a prize. Tell the guests they will only have 30 seconds to draw. As they put pen to paper plate waiting for the signal to begin, tell them they must put the plates on the top of their heads and draw without looking! The bride chooses the best picture and the winner gets a prize!
Wedding shower games are a great way to break up a long session of present opening and are great fun for the bride and her guests. These games for the wedding shower can also be adapted and played again if and when the bride’s next shower is one for baby.
