Maid of Honor
The maid of honor duties are something that are very critical to a wedding. Sure, it is a great honor to be the maid of honor (no pun intended), but it's a lot of work as well. Thus, today we are going to talk about some of the maid of honor duties that will need to be done. By the end of this, you will see that the duties go way beyond just writing maid of honor speeches.
First of all, before the wedding even takes place, the maid of honor has a lot to do with the bride. Normally they go around and look at different places that would be perfect for the wedding. After that the she normally helps to send out the invitations. This is done by helping the bride label all of the invitations, and make sure that they go to where they need to go. By working with the bride you are reducing the load of the task a lot. After all, this is a task that would normally take one person a few days, but with help it can be done in a few hours.
After that the maid of honor has to give out her ideas on decorations for the wedding. This may even go as far as helping the bride to order the wedding decorations. They also have the duty of going with the bride when she goes to pick up her wedding dress. The maid of honor duties do not stop there, however. In fact, a lot of times she has to go register for gifts with the bride. Of course, this is something that she only has to do if the groom does not want to, which more times than not, the groom does not want to go do this.
Then the maid of honor can help the bride with the seating arrangements. This is normally a very difficult process for the wedding. On a personal note, remember that it is very helpful to make up some drawings to get a visual of where everyone is going to sit. Just writing down tables and names is never a good idea.
On top of this duty, the maid of honor is also the host of the bridal shower and the bachelorette party! These are two things that take a lot of planning alone. You can not ask the bride for help, but you can ask the other bridesmaids to help you set up the party. After all, they will be some of the people that will be attending the party.
Normally it is also up to the maid of honor to keep the bridesmaid in order. Making sure that they get their dresses and things like that is part of the maid of honor duties. The maid of honor also must attend, as well as help out with, the rehearsal dinner. The groom and his family can get side tracked and not get everything planned out for the rehearsal dinner. It's a good idea to help the groom stay focused, and make sure that everything gets done.
So you think that your duties are done...think again! Now it's time for the wedding day, and you have even more to do. First of all, you should come up with a maid of honor checklist. This is a way to keep up with everything that needs to be done on the wedding day and ensures that you will not forget anything. During this time you also need to make sure that you are helping the bride get ready for the wedding. This involves putting on her dress and helping out with the makeup. Since the bride will be getting ready for most of the day, it is very important for you to become the messenger for the bride so she can communicate with those of her family that are not inside the room. You will also be the one that goes to the groom's room to communicate with him, and keep him up to date with what's going on. If you have some free time, go to the reception room and make sure that everything is being started without any problems. You may even find yourself trying to find the bride some quiet time before the ceremony starts.
As the maid of honor, you will also be required to hold on to the groom's ring. You will have to give this ring to the bride so that she can give it to the groom come show time. Also if the bride and groom get a lot of money for their wedding day, it is your job to make sure that the money is locked up so that no one tries to take it during the wedding. Although it's a low thing to do, some people would try to do that.
Overall, you also have to be there for moral support. This is a great time to become a great listener. Stay positive, and make sure that the bride does not become too stressed.
