Daughter's Wedding
Name: Lynn Isabelle
Question:
My daughter is planning her wedding for June 21, 2008. She and her fiance are living together and are wondering if it would be too tacky to ask for "cash gift". They really don't need anything else. What would be the proper approach? Do they get it printed on their invitation and what would be the proper wording? or can they ask for cash gift by word of mouth, or is it an absolute No No. Thank You so much.
Lynn
Hi Lynn, asking for cash for a wedding is not tacky, and most people would prefer to get money over gifts that lets face it noone really uses unless they register for it. There is a website online if you can believe it that is a Cash Gift Registry, that claims to be a simple and tasteful way of asking for money. Check out www.gogift.com and see if maybe that is one way to go. It is considered a big no no to print cash gifts only on your invitations. The best way to go about it is to tell your close family and friends that you are hoping to get cash instead of gifts and let the news travel by word of mouth. It is quite effective, but know you will probably receive a few towels and coffee makers.
Thanks Lynn, all the best.
