There is something to be said for tradition: a church, a white dress, roses and a minister. It’s simplistic, it’s beautiful and… it’s just not for some people. For some, weddings are a chance to share creativity and personality, and hosting a unique wedding is a great way to do it!
Destination weddings are the latest trend in unique wedding ideas. Couples choose a vacation destination and resort to host the wedding and invite family and friends to join them in their vacation. Island resorts and beach locations are popular for this type of unique wedding experience. Couples should expect, however, that many guests might not be able to attend the event due to the cost of such a vacation. In fact, many couples plan destination weddings to solve the guest list problems!
Another unique wedding idea is a take on an old idea. Eloping used to be for couples rushing to get married for whatever reason. These days, an elopement can take just as much planning as the traditional church wedding. Many couples prefer the idea and intimacy of being married alone with only one or two witnesses present for legal reasons. Eloping to exotic locations and folding in a honeymoon on the trip is a great way to really get away. Eloping is also a great idea for couples enjoying a second of third marriage. Many brides and grooms feel it is unnecessary to host extravagant events in such cases. Eloping can also solve similar guest list problems. It can also help ease concerns of far away family that wouldn’t be able to make the event.
Backyard weddings are another unique idea in wedding planning. Often thought of as an inexpensive alternative, backyard weddings are a wonderful way to celebrate family and the idea of home. Brides or grooms may enjoy being married in a childhood home surrounded by friends and family. Equipment such as tents, tables and chairs are easily rented and dressed to rival the most beautiful of banquet halls. Zealous mothers may offer to host and provide food for the event, or caterers can be hired to prepare and serve food for any number of guests. Local weather is key for a backyard wedding, and having a back-up plan is a wise idea.
Following a similar theme, outdoor weddings are becoming increasingly more popular. Many couples are choosing local beaches, state or local parks or other privately owned landscapes as a backdrop for the all-important day. Many sites have contact personnel to determine the possibilities of hosting a wedding on the grounds and to handle any necessary preparations. Again, equipment can be rented to provide seating and accommodations for a reception, and a Plan B is wise in case of unforeseen weather.
With so much emphasis on the beauty and unique flavor of weddings, it is no wonder couples are thinking out of the box, designing one-of-a-kind events as unique as the couple themselves.
