There has been a pretty recent addition to the tradition of weddings, and this is known as unity candles. Having unity candles for the wedding is something that a lot of people are starting to do, and it is very popular right now in the United States. So how does the wedding candle unity work? Usually the mother of the two getting married (so the mother on the brides side and the mother on the grooms side) walk up and light what are called taper candles. After the bride and groom say their vows, they then take the taper candles and use them to light the unity candle in the middle.
The wedding candle unity can be decorated a number of different ways. It really is up to the bride and groom (or the wedding planner) to decorate the unity candles for the wedding as they see fit. However, some very popular choices right now are, of course, with an invitation to the wedding as well as a picture of the couple getting married. Of course, the great thing is that there are no set rules to what the wedding candle unity is suppose to look like. So that really opens the door for new ideas to be brought in by both parties. We are bound to see some very interesting ideas in the near feature.
Now a lot of people want to know, what does the wedding candle unity symbolize? This whole thing is suppose to show the joining of two families coming together. It is also suppose to show the love and support the bride and groom are getting from both families. However, it also shows the joining of two individuals as one person. They will now both take on life’s journey together as man and wife. As said before, there are no set rules in how the wedding candle unity ceremony should go. In some cases, the taper candles are left burning to show that each family’s love will never run out. In some ceremonies, they blow out their candles. As you can clearly see, it’s up to you.
Something else that people like to do is to keep the unity candle after they get married. After all, the unity candle is not left burning for very long. Then the couple is suppose to relight the unity candle on their anniversaries. For the most part, these candles are very big, and because they are not left burning very long, will usually last a couple their whole life. After all, they are only lighting it once a year for just a few seconds.
