An oft-repeated question a woman asks, especially before her wedding, is: “What kind of dress would best suit my looks?” It is a question worth asking because some body types do not go well with some dresses, and one must find the exact type that makes her look as beautiful as possible. It is a well known fact that you may not look good even if the dress comes right in your size. As different women have different shapes, wedding gowns also tend to be of different types so that there is one for everybody. If the choice is perfect, the bride looks stunning. But if the choice is wrong, the less said the better.
To avoid headache, you should know what type of dress would be suitable for your body before you set out shopping. It is advised not to go by fashion magazines; their dresses may look beautiful on a model, but not on everybody else. In addition, you can greatly narrow down your choices if you start preparing yourself beforehand.
What suits whom
Those with a short and slender body may go for simple strait or slight A-Line style that will make them look taller. A gown with princess seams, that is not too full, will suit them fine. It’s better to avoid really full or puffed sleeves. Vertical silhouette lines like A-Line, princess and strait styles will suit those brides who are short or full-figured. It is better to avoid a dress that is too tight and hugs the body curves too much.
If you happen to be an average weight / average height bride, you are the one most loved by fashion designers. Fortunately or unfortunately, not many are like you and almost anything will look good on you. More so if you decide to wear especially defined waistlines like basque and gathered skirts. For full-figured / average brides, flowing silhouettes will do fine by drawing attention to their faces. The princess cut, strait style and A-Line gowns will suit them fine. It is better not to wear anything that makes them look heavier.
If you are full-figured and tall, you should look for A-Line, strait or princess styles that will make you look more slender. Be careful to avoid any dress that adds bulk or makes you look larger. Slender and tall brides are the blessed ones who look beautiful in almost anything. However, if you like to look shorter or if you are very thin, you can opt for dresses with features that add some fullness to your figure. Very straight dresses or something fitted skin tight should be avoided. For the plus sized bride, it is better to look for some simple designs that can conceal some of the bulk. It is better to avoid tight fitting dresses or clingy fabrics.
