Choosing a wedding registry is a big decision. In the world of weddings these days, most guests are happy to receive registry information. It makes gift buying that much easier, and registries give the guest the comfort of knowing the gift is needed and will be well received. It also gives the couple peace of mind in knowing they will receive items on their wish list. For these reasons and more, wedding registries are a wonderful invention.
When choosing a registry for the wedding, simple is always better. Choose a store that can offer the majority of items on the wish list. If necessary, register at a second store or website, however, anything beyond two will seem complicated and frivolous. It can also get confusing for the guests. Consider department stores or combination stores to ensure a wide variety of products will be available. Make sure the store has a wedding registry website for guests who may not live near a regional store, or who may wish to shop on the Internet and send the gift. Internet wedding registries are perfect for out-of-town guests who wish to send a gift rather than travel with it.
Once a store and or website is chosen, it is important to vary the wishes on the registry. While the couple may desire many high priced items, not all guests may be able to afford or willing to spend that type of money on a wedding gift. Similarly, family and close friends tend to spend more than secondary acquaintances or distant relatives. It is courteous to take the needs of the guests into consideration when building the wedding registry. Register for the expensive china and bedding, but be sure to include less expensive items, such as small kitchen appliance and picture frames. Some stores even offer the option to add gift cards to the registry. This way, the guest can choose the amount they wish to spend, and the couple can apply the money to an item of their choosing. If building a traditional wedding registry is not applicable due to an already established home or lack of interest, consider a creative option.
Honeymoon registries are a current trend in weddings. For couples who do not have a need for a mixer, table linens or glassware, travel companies are able to set up a registry to help pay for the honeymoon. The information can be shared with guests by the hostess of the bridal shower or by word of mouth. Guests can call the travel company or access the website and contribute to the couple’s dream vacation.
Another creative alternative in wedding registries would be to register for services. This information may be more difficult to share, as simple registry will not exist. However, friends and family can spread the word to guests that the couple would like, for instance, a landscape consultation for the new home or a ‘his and her’ massage at the local spa. The ideas for services and wedding registries are endless and can be tailored for the likes of each couple.
