Men are luckier than women as far as selecting what to wear for their wedding is concerned. A groom can well manage with a hired tuxedo, of course properly ironed, and return it when the wedding is over. No such luck for the bride, however, because she happens to be the star of the show. A right choice of the wedding dress becomes a real problem as the bride has to check endless fittings to get the right size, not to mention the various other accessories.
If one follows tradition, the bride should wear a long, white dress. On many occasions, her dress also determines what the groom will wear for the ceremony. Sometimes, it does influence what the guests will wear also. If the ceremony is observed on a smaller scale, or when it is not a case of first marriage, the bride can be dressed in a sober, light-colored suit.
The groom can comfortably wear a dark suit, a white shirt and a discreet tie. Taking a cue from the bride’s dress, he may also wear a dress suit, a tuxedo or a morning suit. The attire of the bride’s father and the best man resembles that of the groom. The guests are notified of the dress at the time of the invitation. As far as the accessories go, the bride’s wedding bouquet is chosen according to the style of the dress and the groom wears a white carnation on the coat lapel.
Advance planning
For those heading for the altar, it makes a lot of sense to plan their wedding dress well ahead of time. Most marriages take place during the spring or summer and the demand for wedding dresses peaks at that time. So if you are going to wed during that time, plan beforehand and avoid unnecessary trouble. It is natural that women will be more interested in advance planning, because their wedding attire demands much more attention than what the grooms wear.
Women will need several trips to the wedding dress shop to make sure that the fit is just perfect. The fitting of the dress is most likely to be yet another time consuming process. Considering everything, it is always wise to allow at least a couple of months’ time before the wedding ceremony so that the bride is able to choose her dress without any hurry. She might also save some money in this process, as she has enough time to pick and choose. However, if you can afford to spend a lot of money to make this a special occasion, you can even hire a renowned designer.
